Norton Children's Cardiac Intensive Care Unit

In late 2018, Norton Children's Hospital will begin construction on a Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. This 17 bed private room unit is scheduled for completion late 2019.

The heart patients that will benefit from this unit are babies and toddlers who undergo some of the most life threatening, invasive surgeries and procedures. They deserve to have a special place dedicated to their unique needs, improving their chances of recovery.

Brady recovered from each of his surgeries in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. He received exceptional care from many talented doctors, specialists and nurses. However, he was mixed in with many different types of patients. Car accidents, devastating mishaps, major illnesses most highly contagious, even patients in the hospital's care due to neglect or abuse. This unit takes on every kid's trauma. Imagine putting forth so much effort to mend a little heart, all the while knowing there are external elements out of your control, potentially creating great harm despite all your efforts. The new Cardiac Intensive Care Unit will remedy that by providing specialized care in an environment better suited for recovering pediatric heart patients.

Your donation will be restricted to the building and maintenance of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. Congenital heart defects are the most common birth defect and the leading cause of infant mortality in the U.S. Your donation will improve the lives of so many families and give many children with heart problems a fighting chance.

Far Right: Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
Far Left: Addition of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit.
